GRAMMAR SCHOOL STRAKONICE

Gymnázium Strakonice

After the establishment of Czechoslovakia in 1918, the conditions for the development of Czech education were very favourable, and on 10th June 1919 the city council decided to submit to the Ministry of Education an application for the establishment of a grammar school. However, the Ministry did not deal with this request for a long time and therefore, on 18th June 1920, the municipal council resolved to open the first class of the town’s grammar school from 1st September of the same year.
That is how our school arose. Each year, three classes of four-year and one of 8-year cycle are opened. The whole school is completed with a school-leaving examination. By the year 2000, 5347 students had graduated here. For students, there are plenty of offers for non-compulsory courses from Russian to typing. Students can also sing in the choir or attend a theater club. Students also visit the Club of Gifted Children. Other students are working on publishing the online Grafoman school magazine, one of the most successful in the Czech Republic.
Currently, approximately 600 students attend our school. We should not forget their achievements. We have great results in the history, language and chemical Olympics. Students who have graduated from our grammar school are mostly well prepared to take entrance exams at colleges and study there. The school has a 97% success rate at admission to college.
